Training Tips

Compass

On November 19, 2015 Owner Services announced a new Knowledge Base program, Compass. With its streamlined design and reorganized content, it will not take more than 2-3 clicks to find information about any aspect of your job. One of the challenges when transferring Information from the previous Knowledge Base program (MySource) to Compass was determining how to consolidate and eliminate unnecessary and outdated information. Several focus groups and many meetings were held with the sole purpose of figuring out what this system would look like and how it would behave. What we learned was we needed a more intuitive and effective Search function, an easier to read interface, and a way to navigate quickly. We took all of this into account in the development of Compass.

Search Function

One function MySource lacked was an intuitive search function. Compass has a search function emulating other popular search engines. Unlike MySource, you can effectively search each page with single or multiple word phrases and it will learn what the most likely results are and adjust as we use it. It also allows you to filter your results by the individual section (Associate, Finance, etc.) or search all of Compass. In the top right corner of Compass you can engage the drop down box to filter. The default is 'Search this site' however there are four options to choose from.

Search options:
Select Search this site or This Site – Only searches the current site you are in (e.g. Finance, Forms)
Select Everything – Searches all of Compass
Select People – Only searches for associates
Select Conversations – disregarded this option, it will not search for information that is applicable

Resort Pages

The new resort pages are more colorful and engaging with streamlined content. They also feature multiple pictures of the resort, the resort logo and a lifestyle image. The Resort pages also include links to Marriott.com where you can find a myriad of updated information about room types, room views, contact information, suggested activities and extensive pictures of the resort. For easier navigation, all Marriott Vacation Club properties are located in one area, regardless of brand. There is also world map available with markings to indicate coordinates of each resort location.

In addition to utilizing Marriott.com, Explorer collection information will be available on our Owner website. Using the same information our Owners see helps prevents duplicating information, alleviating potential misinformation and allows minimal turnaround time when new products are added to the Explorer Collection Destinations portfolio. Being able to view Explorer Collection information online, along with the Owner, allows us to best meet their needs.

MySource:

MySource is not going away completely. You will still need to access MySource for the hotel Lodging pages however, it is still very important to utilize PURE for hotel information. Additionally, detailed information regarding Marriott Rewards® and the Reward Schedule will still be in MySource.

Compass is a new and improved format with an amazing search function, high resolution pictures with an almost instantaneous update turnaround time. We appreciate your feedback on Compass to help us make it even better, so please send any suggestions or updates to MVW SLC Global Services University.
