Navigating New York City
With the arrival of Marriott Vacation Club®, New York City, make 2016 the year you explore the Big Apple! If you've never enjoyed a New York holiday, here are a few tips for getting around the city:
- When navigating the busy city streets, keep in mind that Fifth Avenue divides Manhattan into east and west sides, while building numbers increase as you go farther east or west.
- You can use an MTA MetroCard for subways and buses, which run 24 hours a day. You can buy a card at a vending machine or station booth.
- If you plan to use the subway, download a subway map app from the MTA website to figure out the fastest or simplest route to your destination, find nearby stations and stay updated on service disruptions.
- As in any big city, be mindful of your surroundings. Watch out for pickpockets, and avoid walking through deserted areas of Central Park after dark.
- If the number on a taxi's top light is lit, the cab is available. All taxis accept cash and most accept credit cards. Do not accept a ride from any unlicensed vehicle, which are particularly common at the city's airports.
- Consider buying a CityPass to receive discounts on tickets to six of the city's top attractions: the Empire State Building, the Guggenheim Museum or Top of the Rock, the American Museum of Natural History, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Metropolitan Museum of Art (including the Cloisters), and Circle Line Cruises or admission to Liberty and Ellis islands.
